Better Living Home Care Staff

Better Living acknowledge that our success depends on nurturing our clients and support staff. We are extremely proud of the passionate people who staff our office. These are the people that tie everything together to ensure a smooth running service. Life can be unpredictable, Better Living are equipped to deal with any situation as it arises.

We have asked our dedicated office staff a few questions to give a quick snapshot of who they are:



Donna

What is your experience in community care? I have worked as a care coordinator for Better Living for the past 10 years.

Why do you do what you do? I like the fact that I have the ability to make people’s lives easier.

What are your Passions/Hobbies? I love reading and running (but not at the same time).

Who are your Pets? I have a gorgeous Shiztu Maltese terrier called Maggie.

Name 3 things you love about your local community? The beach, the running/walking tracks and the council resource centre.

Name one thing you don’t? I’ve only recently moved, so no negatives so far.

Jo

What is your experience in community care? Over the past twenty years I have worked in a number of healthcare and community settings. I have been happily employed by Better Living Homecare for the past 3 years.

Why do you do what you do? I am passionate about a community’s development and the individual well-being of its people. I believe small things can make big differences.

What are your Passions/Hobbies? My passions are exercise, the beach, and spending time with the family (preferably doing all 3 at the same time).

Who are your Pets? I have a big, hairy, LabX called Dave Grohl.

Name 3 things you love about your local community? My local community (City of Darebin) is grungy, noisy and multicultural – I love it.

Name one thing you don’t? High Street gets pretty choccers during peak hour.

Kamilia

What is your experience in community care? I have worked as a social worker for almost 10 years; I have worked mainly in case management in disability, and the age care sector.

Why do you do what you do? Everyone can go through difficult time at some stage in their life no matter what age, culture or gender. That is why I believe it is important to enhance the sense of community and the importance to support one another in time of need. I enjoy my work as it gives me the chance to support others and make a difference in their lives and it is my way to give back to the community.

What are your Passions/Hobbies? Music, art and kickboxing.

Who are your Pets? “Pouchie” my Pet Maltese cross Shih Tzu

Name 3 things you love about your local community? I love my multicultural and diverse community, with plenty of restaurants that offer very different local food that is delicious.

Name one thing you don’t? Not enough parking areas.

 

Maria:

What is your experience in community care? I have been a Division 2 nurse for over 30 years and worked with the district nurses in the Yarra Valley for many years. I have been in this role for about 5 years.

Why do you do what you do? I am committed to assisting the elderly to stay in their own homes for as long as possible. The elderly have a lot to offer in terms of experience and often people forget that.

What are your Passions/Hobbies? Reading and spending time with my large family.

Who are your Pets? I have a very cute Shih tzu puppy called Evie, an American Bulldog – Rupert and Stella the Cat.

Name 3 things you love about your local community? I love living in the Yarra Valley with its abundance of trees, beautiful landscapes and fresh air.

Name one thing you don’t? The roads get a little busy on weekends when tourists arrive to enjoy the beauty.

Mary

What is your experience in community care? My Background is in children’s disability, specifically autism. I have been assisting the clients of Better Living for the past 4 ½ years.

Why do you do what you do? It is nice going to work every day knowing that I’m helping to improve the lives of others.

What are your Passions/Hobbies? I like undertaking DIY projects, reading, and I’m a self-confessed sci-fi geek

Who are your Pets? Two adorable whippets called Molly and Bella and two cats called Lilly (the couch potato) and Jett (who thinks he is a dog).

Name 3 things you love about your local community? I love the location (near the hills), I have amazing neighbours and I love the old fashioned sense of community.

Name one thing you don’t? The phone coverage is terrible.

Michael

What is your experience in community care? I am relatively new to community care (5 years), but it has been a very rewarding and fulfilling time.

Why do you do what you do? After spending a large portion of my working life in senior financial positions for large companies I was looking for something more fulfilling. Spending my days

surrounded by hard working individuals who are actively changing people’s lives for the better certainly fills that brief. I could not imagine doing anything else.

What are your Passions/Hobbies? First and foremost I am passionate about Better Living; it gives me great satisfaction to be part of an organisation full of people who strive every day to improve the lives of those who need assistance. In my spare time I like to keep fit and spend time with my family.

Who are your Pets? In our house we are the proud owners of a pet…rock. No live animals here.

Name 3 things you love about your local community? The Sunday market, the community spirit and the beautiful parklands

Name one thing you don’t? Traffic

Simone:

What is your experience in community care? I have worked in Community Aged Care for 14 Years Predominately in an Operational and Human Resource Capacity within Not for Profits and the private sector.

Why do you do what you do? I got into Aged Care because of my Grandma who had health issues and was socially isolated. It was because of the great care givers than contributed to my Grandmas wellbeing that made me realise how amazing the people were that took on these positions and the difference that they make.

What are your Passions/Hobbies? I love walking, reading, movies and spending time with my family most of all.

Who are your Pets? I have a fabulous Pug dog called Merlot.

Name 3 things you love about your local community? I love the Cultural Diversity, Parklands, and the Schools
